Energy healing is based on the fact that everything is energy and that energy flows through the body. Over time or through trauma the flow of energy can get disrupted and blockages form that impede the flow of energy. This leads to dis-ease in the body, and physical symptoms, at the site of the blockage or in a related area. Energy healing supports your body to restore the balance and flow of energy in order to move back to its natural state of ease.
Please note that energy healing is a complementary modality and should not replace your doctor or any medication you may be taking. Read to learn more about energy healing in this detailed overview.
Understanding Body Density
To understand the energy healing process better, you first need to understand that our bodies are composed of layers of energy with different density. Energy healing can take place on the different layers, generally dependent on the recipient's needs and the healer's training and experience.
The Physical Body
The physical body is the level you are most familiar with daily. It consists of a physical body we can all touch and see. Healing on this level deals with imbalances directly related to physical symptoms or may be a manifestation of an imbalance of one of the other body layers.
The Mental Body
This consists of the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious minds. The mental body is the avenue for mental awareness and the level of being where humans create, either consciously or unconsciously. Energy healing can help to calm an overstimulated mental body or help provide focus and perspective.
The Aura or Etheric Body
The etheric body is the first or lowest layer in the human energy field or aura. The etheric body is said to be in immediate contact with the physical body and to sustain it and connect it with bodies of higher frequencies. The higher the frequency the lower the density.
The History of Energy Healing
Energy healing traces back to the very dawn of history, when people had a closer link to energy healing and used it as a primary and crucial aspect of health and happiness. It's important to acknowledge that similar modes of energy healing developed in different cultures across the world.
Below are some major times in history when energy healing cropped up to become a major force of healing on the planet.
Ancient China
People in ancient China recognized crucial life-giving energy (Chi) in the third millennium B.C. This universal energy makes up and pervades all matter. Chi consists of two polar forces, yin, and yang. The living system exhibit optimal physical health when the two polar forces balance.
Ancient India
The belief in universal energy (Prana) in ancient India traces the tradition of energy healing back to 5000 years ago. Prana is considered a basic constituent and source of all life on the planet. It is a breath of life that flows through all forms giving them life.
Shamanistic healing
In shamanistic cultures, all adults are responsible for their relationships with spiritual energies, including those of their home environment (geography, animals, and plant life,) their ancestors, their own personal helping spirits, and Spirit, the creator force. However, the shaman is unique in that he or she not only has increased facility for travelling in non-ordinary realms, but also uses their spirit relationships to create changes that will manifest in the physical world, for the healing of individuals or the community.
Shamanic healing work requires two distinct phases. The accurate diagnosis of the seen and unseen energies at the root of the problem. Carrying out the specific choreography of energies needed to resolve the problem.
The shaman may serve by removing energies that are inappropriately present, or by returning energies that have been lost.
Forms of Energy Healing
There are different therapies that work to restore health energetically. Examples include:
Chakra Healing
Chakra healing involves balancing energy flow through a patient's chakras (energy centres). You have seven main energy centres from the base of the spine to the top of the head. They all have defined locations and individual characteristics.
Blockage on any of the chakras can lead to stagnation which may cause various spiritual and physical illnesses. When the energy centres are open and balanced, there is a free energy flow in a person's mind and body.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese gentle hands-on healing technique in which the practitioner channels energy into a patient by gently touching to trigger the human body's innate, natural healing processes. Therefore, Reiki practitioners act as a channel for universal energy, which restores balance to the life force or body and spirit. It results in relaxation, more energy, and improvement in overall health. Many people trust this type of energy healing to alleviate anxiety, stress, and pain.
A review of randomized trials reveals that Reiki energy healing therapy can help reduce anxiety and pain, but there is a need for more research. Results from another study found that people who underwent Reiki therapy received greater mood benefits compared to people who didn't have the treatment. The participants of this study had undergone six 30-minute sessions for 2-8 weeks.
Another study shows that research into forms of energy healing like Reiki, therapeutic touch, and healing touch show efficacy for symptoms usually linked to cancer, including health function, anxiety, and pain.
In-Person vs. Remote Energy Healing
While the most common type of energy healing is real-time in-person healing, energy healing can also be performed over distance. During an in-person energy healing session, you receive your therapy while in the same room with your practitioner. On the other hand, in remote healing, the client receives an energy therapy session from a practitioner located in a different location. In short, you can get your session from anywhere in the world while your energy healing provider is in another location. Remote healing works due to the link between the universal energy source and all living beings on the planet.
Your provider can sense your body and all that is going on with it wherever you are and direct energy intent and focus to your location. When receiving a distance healing session, you can lie down or sit down at a pre-arranged time as you would do in an in-person session.
Your healer goes into the healing office and connects to you through Zoom Meeting or phone during the entire session to share information and instructions as if you are in the same room. Remote healing is helpful if you are temporarily unable to drive or can't make it to the healer's office for other reasons.
But is remote healing as effective as in-person energy healing? Typically, it all depends on the level of consciousness of your healer. A distance healing session can be more powerful if your healer has a greater level of consciousness. A pilot study revealed that patients who received half-an-hour sessions of remote Reiki healing for five days while continuing regular medical care had reduced pain, anxiety, and fatigue levels.
